Advent welcomes us into community.
At Ivanhoe, the Advent season offers opportunities both to serve others and to share in the warmth of community. We support Fremont Township’s Share the Harvest, Chicago’s Night Ministry, and Avon Township’s Kids’ Christmas Gift Program—living our faith through acts of generosity. We invite you to join us for the meaningful services and events listed below.
Share the Harvest — Through Sunday, November 16
We’re collecting donations for Fremont Township’s Share the Harvest meals—an important Thanksgiving blessing for our neighbors. You may contribute online at ivanhoechurch.org/donate.
Hanging of the Greens – First Sunday of Advent — November 30
Celebrate the first Sunday of Advent with worship and a potluck luncheon following the service. There will be plenty of food even if you don’t bring a dish to share! Afterward, join in a joyful time of decorating the church for the season.
Advent Book Discussion — Wednesdays, December 3, 10, and 17
Join us for An Unlikely Advent—a book discussion focusing on the experiences of four sets of often overlooked characters in the Nativity story, as we meet in person and via Zoom. Written by Rachel Billups, it is available on Amazon in paperback or Kindle.
Caroling — Sunday, December 14
Come share in the warmth and harmony of caroling! We’ll gather in Fellowship Hall at 3:00 p.m. and set off to sing to friends in their homes and care centers. Join us afterward for a potluck gathering at 5:00 p.m.
Christmas Play and Yule Fest — Sunday, December 21
Enjoy this year’s Christmas play during our morning service as our children and youth present a pageant retelling the Christmas story. Our annual Yule Fest will follow in Fellowship Hall—bring a favorite holiday dessert to share!
Christmas Eve Service — December 24, at 8:00 p.m.
Follow the star to the Bethlehem Window for this cherished candlelight service of readings, carols, and prayer.
First Sunday after Christmas — Sunday, December 28
After all the hubbub, come for an uplifting service of carols and hymns—a gentle moment of reflection between Christmas and the New Year.
